Did You Know That Dogs Recognize The Tone Of Voice?

Did you know that dogs recognize the tone of voice?

Dogs sense the feelings implicit in our tone of voice. Your brain can process what we say, in addition to the intention and emotions of the human voice.

According to these studies,  the dog knows how people feel and their intention through the emotions emanating from the tone of their voice. All of this can be explained by their obedience to us.

Why do they recognize our tone of voice?

The results of several studies have shown that  language processing in the dog’s brain splits into two hemispheres,  much like that of humans.

Just like humans,  each of these brain hemispheres in dogs is responsible for understanding different parts of communication. It can be directly understandable language (words and phrases) or non-verbal language (gestures and intonations)

The next step to be studied is whether the ability to know our tone of voice is a product of its own evolution as a species or is related to its domestication by humans.

In this way,  dogs understand some parts of human speech  in a similar way to ours, an ability that was fundamental during the history of their domestication.

Dog owners have always believed, on occasion, that  our furry friend seems to understand everything we say.

The tone of voice, far beyond words

Some experts say that  dogs even recognize some components of the conversation,  as well as phonemes in sentences.

In the course of a conversation,  words are not everything. Features such as intonation and facial expressions play an important role in communication and different parts of the brain process these tones.

The domestication process

How did the dogs produce this adaptation  until they were able to recognize our tone of voice? Dog domestication, the ability of these animals to respond to human orders, plays a key role in their adaptation. But don’t forget that this is a feature common to many species of mammals.

During dog domestication,  the ability of these animals to respond to human orders played an important role  in their adaptation. But it is important to emphasize that this is a common feature of several species of mammals.

Another peculiarity is that  dogs can differentiate whether a man or a woman is speaking through their voice,  as anyone would, and even say exactly who is speaking.

Several researchers consider that  the intelligence of dogs can be compared to that of a two-year-old baby.

How were these studies carried out?

In the tests,  the research team reproduced several recorded messages and analyzed the animals’ reaction. Some said “come here” monotonously, without intonation. Others said nothing understandable, but the intonation was there.

Depending on which way the dog was pointing, it  was possible to deduce which cerebral hemisphere processed the information first. That is, when the dog looked to his left, it meant that he had listened more intensely with his left ear.

These results were decisive to know that  the differentiation of the brain of these animals can be compared to that of a human,  in this context.

Some Smart Dog Breeds

Although this varies from dog to dog, and although  each animal has differentiating elements when it comes to other animals, some breeds are more “active and daring” than others.

Rottweilers and Labradors are well known for their intelligence. Rottweilers are often used for police work because they have strong jaws and teeth.

The Labrador is one of the smartest dogs in the world and also one of the most popular breeds. This is an amazing breed of dog that offers many services. The breed originated from the Terra Nova breed and was trained to hunt waterfowl.

Over time,  the Labradors were being trained for new jobs. Many of these dogs are used by public authorities as bomb and drug detectors. Any dog that can be trained for this kind of work is definitely smart.

Labradors are also used for rescue. Many are trained to help the less able, especially the blind. Labradors can be trained to guide a human without risking being distracted by anything.
