Stray Dogs, A Sad Reality That Never Ends

Stray dogs, a sad reality that never ends

The abandonment of pets is common in countries around the world, and this is due to the rush to adopt an animal, the economic crisis, the cruelty of some breeders or old age and its associated diseases. The stray dog population is growing every day.

Although the world has undergone many changes and improvements in recent years, little has been done to alleviate the problem of stray dogs. While there are many organizations and even individuals who struggle with abandonment, the sad reality is quite another.

There are many causes for pet abandonment and therefore there are more and more stray dogs. This is not that difficult to resolve, but it does require a little awareness and some commitment from all of us.

Why are there more and more stray dogs

Depending on each country, there is a more or less high percentage of stray dogs. Even so, the causes of dropouts are generally the same. The common factors that lead to more and more animals on the streets are as follows:

Impulse Adoption

There are many families who give in to their children’s whims, or even themselves, to have a pet at home. They think puppies are cute and something that brings a lot of joy to a home. And this is absolutely true, but they forget the most important thing: it is a dependent living being.

And as such, owning a dog implies a responsibility that you will have to be willing to take on. You will need to take care of his various needs, go for a walk three times a day, take him to the vet when he gets sick, and this can all be a problem when going on vacation, for example.

Financial problems

It is common in developing countries to see one or more dogs in the house, usually large dogs. This is curious, since in these places it’s already difficult to get food for you and your family, so how do you feed the animals?

This is a problem that arises over time, when they don’t give it enough thought, or when income drops, something that happens all too often. So they stop feeding the animals, who  wander the streets looking for something to put in their mouths.

Capacity in breeding

Man’s greed is another reason why more and more stray dogs are wandering aimlessly. Those who are dedicated to raising dogs force females to have puppies non-stop. Some of them are not as “perfect” as they would like, so they are not suitable for sale.

Old age

After you have spent your whole life with the animal, you realize that it is getting old, sick, and requires special care that demands your time  and, why not say, that also demands your money. Not everyone is willing to take on these “problems”. Sad? Yes, very much, although we can define such an act more as selfishness.

Many stray dogs, no matter what country they are in, are old and sick dogs. Many of them die in the streets without the treatment they need and without being able to live their last days in a dignified way,  as they deserve. They gave you their life!

Can the stray dog problem be fixed? Looking at the causes, our answer is yes. The problem lies in the evil of many, in the greed of man and in the fact that they cannot see animals as living beings. This seems to be beyond our control and we must get used to the idea that such a situation may never change.
